Video Games

In the 21st Century, thanks to six-figure sums of cash for mass marketing and calculated media hype millions of households now have a computer console dedicated solely for games-playing. The Nintendo Wii, DS and Sony Playstation have now made playing video games acceptable to every age range. But our question is: Would these consoles be so popular without the software, the 'killer app' as the industry calls it? We do not think so!

Games like Wii Sports, Guitar Hero and Halo have almost single-handedly managed to help sell hundreds of thousands of consoles solely on the merits of the game. Such is the power of software, and it was not so different back in the 1980's and 90's.

Who can forget Daley Thompson's Decathlon? Chat to anyone these days about old video games and they almost always recall bashing keys as fast as possible to make the little man run faster along the screen to win the race. Or Way of The Exploding Fist, the unforgettable karate game that even managed to grab the parents attention as they watched their young child destroy their computer opponent with a well-timed flying kick!
